ANN-MARIE RAYNEY is a printmaker and art teacher working in South East London. Her work is very much determined by printmaking and all its glorious processes. The world is a loud old place that is becoming more and more digital so she believes it is very important to be covered in ink and to look at the things that aren’t demanding our attention, whether that be the background textures of an image or smaller details that are often hiding in plain sight.
In her use of the CMYK separation process she has also come to love these colours in their own right. This has sparked another path of exploration playing around with how they layer up and experimenting with more bold and graphic outcomes along the way. She has also started some drawing works that will be on display for the first time at Lambeth Open. They will be nestled in amongst the riot of colour of both Ann-Marie and Priscilla’s works.
PRISCILLA WATKINS is an oil painter and a printmaker and her subject is swimming. She is a regular at Brockwell Lido where she finds the unique combination of figure, pattern and light in the water allows her to explore the emotional depths of the human experience and make art that both inspires and consoles. She is fascinated by the pattern of light on the floor of a sunlit swimming pool. The mesmerising beauty of chaos, endlessly looping and repeating.
Always the same and yet never the same. Like a poet, she distils that complex visual information down as far as it will go and tries to say more with less. Her art helps you see that it’s the darkness that makes the light brighter and to choose to be in the moment and to live life with joy.
