Jorge Sanchez – 73 Fawnbrake Avenue, Herne Hill SE24 0BE

Originally from the Philippines, where he worked as a pharmacist, Jorge Sanchez moved to the UK in 2003. He settled with his partner in Herne Hill, fell in love with the British countryside and started to paint. His inspiration is the natural world. Jorge’s abstract impressionist landscapes – some real, some imagined – combine rich, earthy tones with splashes of bright colour. They evoke the feeling of walking in Britain’s beautiful countryside, particularly Yorkshire and the Scottish Highlands.

Jorge is fascinated by colour and texture. When he starts to paint, he doesn’t always have a clear image in mind. He works intuitively, starting with his chosen colour palette, and once the brush or palette knife makes contact with the canvas, it moves with its own energy and the image emerges as layer upon layer is applied or scraped away. Recently he has been working on a series inspired by walks in the woodlands and green spaces of London. www.sanchezart.co.uk or Instagram @jorge_sanchez_artist
