Lambeth Open is not simply about seeing finished artwork. It is about seeing how things are made.
An open studio offers a glimpse into the working environment of an artist – the materials, tools, sketches, experiments and unfinished pieces that normally remain hidden from public view. For artists, the studio is often both workplace and laboratory: somewhere ideas are tested, mistakes are made and new directions emerge.
That makes visiting an open studio very different from visiting a gallery.
Come and see the finished work, but take a moment to look around. You may learn as much from the artist’s workspace as from the work on the walls.
